Chronic Diseases

From beginning to end, we can help you navigate what can be difficult times. Periods, contraception, discomfort, infections, perimenopause, menopause and the effects of ageing can all be challenging.

With extra training in Implanon and IUD insertion and many years helping women manage these issues, we can help.

We have a relationship and network with many specialists in the Hunter who may also assist.
A special interest area. Melanoma and non-melanoma skin cancers are becoming more common. The Hunter area has one of the highest rates of melanoma in NSW. Light skin, lots of time in the sun, and a family history of melanoma are all risk factors.

Check your skin regularly and let us check any lesions you are concerned about. A 1-2 yearly skin check is a very good idea.
Chronic diseases such as high blood pressure, diabetes, asthma, airways disease, heart disease, chronic kidney disease and many others can develop at any time. Screening for these diseases is an important part of your regular healthcare.

If you have a chronic disease, regular monitoring of your condition is vital. This ensures that you are meeting evidence-based targets for lowering the risk of your condition, and can help you stay on track with
self-management.

Health Checks
Children are precious. When they are sick you want prompt assessment and treatment or reassurance.

At Bay Doctors we understand what this feels like and will endeavour to ensure that sick children are able to see a doctor on the day.

Regular checks and immunisations are important to ensure our kids stay as healthy as possible.
Being pregnant is an exciting time and we love sharing that time with you; from  planning and confirming your pregnancy through to meeting your newborn for the first time.

Shared antenatal care is a common choice for pregnant women, where they see their GP for most of the checks during pregnancy and visit the hospital just a few key times.

At Bay Doctors we have further training and experience in this area.
A general check-up and advice on improving or maintaining your health can be offered at any time. Health checks are actively encouraged at a few key times during life:
During childhood; at immunisations and before school; sexual health checks throughout life, especially in teenage years and 20's;
Age 45-49 health check;
Over 75's health check.

There are also a variety of screening tests recommended at various ages and frequencies, such as cervical screening, cardiovascular risk assessment, breast and bowel cancer screening just to name a few. Book an appointment to see what you are due for.
